5. I put some nice comfy beds and pillows on the deck for them. Guess what I was doing at 2:30 this morning

Gathering up the beds and pillows!!

The number keeps changing. Two regulars, Rhys and Snowdon, have gone missing.

I'm starting to wonder if someone in the neighborhood is putting out something to get rid of the groundhogs and maybe some of the ferals are getting sick. That's kind of what I suspect happened with Pembroke. He was just strong enough to come back home before he died.

Groundhogs can really mess up lawns and veg gardens. I know that one of my former neighbors would put out food laced with arsenic. Now, I have zero use for groundhogs but I'd never even consider going that route. I had one dig massive holes in my front yard. I prefer to deter them so I scooped the litter boxes and deposited the lumps into the burrow. And I could be completely off base - it's just something that I think is a possibility,

6. The rain refilled the outdoor bowls, that's for sure

And I'm keeping up on the water dispensers that are on the porch. I might try putting the box fan out on the porch but I am a little worried it might scare them. At least they have LOTS of shade and foliage to use as an escape from the heat.

The indoor kidcats are pretty accustomed to fans but I'll turn on the AC so that we can all be comfortable. I just refilled their 'ever flowing' water dispenser.

Hopefully I can doze off for a while, since I only got about 3 hours of sleep.

We were sleeping peacefully when all of a sudden there was a brilliant flash then KERBLAM! All three cats flew off the bed and I was right after them. This happened a couple of hours after my weather alert radio went off for a severe thunderstorm that was about 20 miles south of me. Not a restful night. Rosie and I just got back from our walk and the air was so humid you could practically wring it out. Oh, joy. It's going to be insufferable later.

We often get Michigan's weather a few hours or a day later if the winds are blowing across the lakes in our direction. 90s today with thunderstorm this afternoon. 90s the rest of the week, with thunderstorm possibilities predicted for each day except Wednesday.

When you said western NY, I thought, "maybe a neighbor?" We're east side of Seneca lake.

I meant the Great Lakes, especially Lake Erie. I am near Buffalo, but just a little farther inland.

by adding some moisture to the top layer of soil (the energy needed to evaporate that would keep it from further heating the air although it does obviously add humidity).
