84-year-old boater is 11th to die on Oakland County waters this year
(Detroit News) The Oakland County Sheriff's Office identified the boater whose body was found Friday as Louis William Petro, 84, of Sylvan Lake.
Officials believe Petro died by drowning but the investigation remains open, according to a Saturday press release.
Divers with the Sheriff's Office and the Southeast Michigan Dive Group found Petro's body around 10 p.m. Friday after he had been reported missing, the Sheriff's Office said. He was not wearing a life jacket when divers found him in five feet of water about 200 feet from the shore, the Sheriff's Office said.
Eleven people have drowned this year in Oakland County waters, the Sheriff's Office said. ...............(more)
