SPOTLIGHT RACE: Denise Mentzer for MI-HD61
My prior 10 years of experience on the Mount Clemens City commission has offered valuable lessons. I have experience with municipal budgets, taxes, enterprise funds, and special assessments. I have learned when to compromise and when to stand up and hold my ground. I have learned to listen. Im known for doing my homework on any issue that comes before the commission. I pushed for quarterly departmental reports to be made at City Commission meetings to improve transparency.
I'm Denise Mentzer. I grew up right here in Clinton Township and graduated from L'Anse Creuse High. My father retired as a Detective Lieutenant from the Macomb County Sheriff's Department after 34 years of service. My brother still serves in the Sheiff's Department. I earned a degree in Business Administration from Baker College while working full-time and taking night classes.
In 2011, I purchased a home in Mount Clemens and became interested in City issues. In 2013 I was elected to serve on the Mount Clemens City Commission and served for nearly 10 years.
In 2022, I was honored to win election to represent us in Michigan's House of Representatives. This year, I took a big step and filed to run for the second time as your State Representative in District 61 to represent the residents of Clinton Township, Mount Clemens, and eastern Sterling Heights.
I am committed to transparency and fiscal responsibility. I am an advocate for affordable healthcare, preserving all of our individual rights and freedoms, including every Michigander's right to full bodily autonomy, a well funded public education system, economic growth and infrastructure as part of my family legacy of public service.
