Election Commission rejects proposed recall drive against Flint council member Tonya Burns

FLINT, MI -- The Genesee County Election Commission has rejected petition language filed to recall Flint City Council member Tonya Burns.

The commission denied each of the four proposed petition wordings targeting the 6th Ward councilwoman during its meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11, ending the recall drive before it could start.

County Clerk-Register Domonique Clemons, one of three commission members, said petition language filed by sponsor Sandra L. Smith wasn’t sufficiently clear and factual, leading to the denials.

Smith had filed four sets of petition language, saying Burns should be removed from office for reasons including having been disciplined by other council members and for not attending special council meetings called in October and November.
