Storm with high winds, dune-swallowing waves set to lash Michigan again

If last week’s storm with its high winds and dune-gobbling waves created flooding and property-damage headaches up and down the Great Lakes’ coast, then hang onto your hats.

Mother Nature might be churning out a repeat performance on Monday and Tuesday.

A storm system lining up to hit Michigan could bring up to 40 mph wind gusts and up to 10 foot waves on the Great Lakes. This would mean more localized flooding along the lakeshore and likely more beach erosion and dune loss.

“Head’s up to those of you along the Lake Michigan shoreline! Our confidence is increasing that we could see a repeat of last week’s beach/dune erosion, flooding, and large wave event,” the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids said.
