Early tallies show DIA millage passing in all 3 counties

Voters in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties were overwhelming saying yes to renewing a 0.2-mill property tax to help operate the Detroit Institute of Arts, according to early unofficial results in Tuesday's election.

In Wayne County, the millage renewal passed with nearly 76% of the vote. With 91% of precincts reporting in Oakland County, the renewal was also winning by nearly 76%.

And — perhaps most surprisingly — Macomb County supported the renewal, with 62% of voters saying yes. The millage failed in only four communities — Armada, Ray and Richmond townships and the city of Memphis.

In 2012, the millage squeaked by in Macomb County with 50.5% of the vote.

DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons thanked residents of the three counties for the apparent millage renewal victory.

“The DIA millage renewal will ensure the museum can continue offering free field trips and free transportation to tens of thousands of students from local schools each year and free programming for local seniors," he said in a news release. "The millage also ensures free access to the DIA’s unique collection of art, culture and history for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne county residents.”

The current 10-year DIA millage is set to expire in 2022. With the apparent renewal, the millage will be in place for another decade.

I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time.

I really can't help you right now as I am spending all my time with Jack. Tomorrow, we are going to the Tastee Freez to suck on some chili dogs. Perhaps he will indulge me with an imitation of his best James Dean. :swoon:

Ah, well... life goes on.

Please do the best you can without my assistance.

... 500,000 Democrats will vote, plus seven Republicans.

Which group is more likely to support arts and art education?

Duh.
