Dr. Birx Says Lansing Protest Was 'Devastatingly Worrisome'
Dr. Deborah Birx, expressing sentiments contrary to her boss, President Donald Trump, ripped the protesters in Lansing because many did not wear masks or practice social distancing.
"It's devastatingly worrisome to me personally because if they go home and infect their grandmother or their grandfather who has a co-morbid condition and they have a serious or a very — or an unfortunate outcome, they will feel guilty for the rest of our lives," Birx, coordinator for White House coronavirus, told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace.
"As states reopen we really want them to follow the gating criteria, but we also made it very clear to the American people this is what you need to continue to do to protect yourself," Birx said. "You need to continue to social distance, you need to continue to practice scrupulous handwashing, you need to know where your hands and where they have been and what they have touched, and make sure you don’t touch your face, and I think most importantly if you have any preexisting condition, through Phase One and Phase Two of any reopening we have asked you to continue to shelter in place.”
Birx remarks about the protesters went against Trump's, who tweeted last week:
“The governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire. These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.”
