Can we get some polling data on how many Michiganians ventured out in 10 inches of snow this morning

Can we get some polling data on how many Michiganians ventured out in 10 inches of snow this morning just for a paczki?

I want to know.

Two birds, one stone.

1. I'm a Michiganian and Polish but I don't like paczki so I won't go out for them.

I was, however, on the porch to move some snow.

Plowed out our drive before his own. Guess I could go get a Paczki if I really wanted. A side benefit of having a neighbor who works for county road commission, they plow him out right after main roads.

Like a knife through cake, the snowblower had cut a crisp channel through the 2-foot-high snowbank in front of Dobra Bielinkski’s bakery door.
Had there been a wall of ice blocking the way, Bielinski’s customers likely would have found a way in.

Customers flock to Delightful Pastries at the corner of Austin and Lawrence avenues every Fat Tuesday in search of her paczki, pouches of fried dough filled with reservoirs of rose petal jelly, custard — even Kentucky moonshine and lemon curd.

They came this Tuesday, albeit a bit more slowly. Knee-deep snow and impassable alleyways do that. By 7:30 a.m., 30 or so customers had trickled in. It’s usually four or five times that, Bielinski said

Bielinski was ready regardless. She got to her bakery at 4 a.m. She estimates she and her staff will make about 30,000 paczki between “Polish Fat Thursday and American Fat Tuesday,” she said

There are a lot of paczki places here too! Snow and ice will not stop hardcore P lovers today

5. Back when I used to work, I'd stop at a local Polish bakery and get a couple of dozen.

I wasn't the only one, so there were plenty of Paczkis at work.

Now that I'm retired, the thought of a Paczki just has no appeal.

I got out with the snow-thrower this morning, cleared a few driveways and sidewalks. I'm in a neighborhood full of old people.

It wasn't bad, except when the snow-thrower blew some powder and the wind blew it into my face. That was bracing.

6. Honestly, half the fun is just the tradition of it all.

In my case, the tradition of watching the news coverage of people lining up in the wee hours at a Hamtramck bakery for their treats.

I was actually expecting worse from our storm, so that is a good thing. Good on you for helping out your neighbors!
