Absentee ballot numbers in Michigan show high voter turnout

1. I usually vote by mail

This year when I voted in the primaries, I discovered that they have moved my polling place from where it had been for fifty years. There wasn’t even a sign on the door of the old school indicating where it had been moved to. I had to call the county clerk to locate it. It’s now in the garage of a fire station. They will have to leave the fire trucks outside in the freezing wind while voting takes place.

2. Yikes. It sounds like they don't want folks voting in your area.

My district got re-drawn, I was in MI-08 and now I'm in MI-07, but my polling place is still the same -- it's in a church that's literally across the street from my place. I voted absentee in 2020 because of Covid, but I voted in person in the primary and plan to vote in person in November because it's more convenient for me than even dropping my ballot off in a mailbox.

3. Terrific news!

I just received my ballot yesterday and am filling it out today. I found one of the best sites for recommendations on candidates you may not know much about to be the Michigan Education Association site. Basically, they are recommending all Dems for everything which I sort of suspected, but you never know. I'm not familiar with my local school board members, so I went to their site to get some input.

I always vote absentee, set aside at least an hour for this ballot. I'll use the township hall's drop box since I only live a half mile from them.

Go Dems! You know, in Michigan it's so convenient to vote. I truly wish all states had absentee voting.

4. I just got a flyer today form the Ingham County Democratic Party with their endorsements.

I appreciate it because, even though I always vote a straight party ticket, the nonpartisan races (judges, etc.) can be confusing. And of course, vote YES on all props this year.

5. I agree about the non-partisan races.

The only one I was sure of was Richard Bernstein.

When I first opened the ballot, I was a bit confused about the Straight Party ticket since there were two columns of them. I had to think twice about does my checking Democratic Party also include the second column? I wonder if some people will be confused. I wonder what happens if you choose Straight Party but then fill in the ovals in the second column for all Dems? Does your ballot get thrown out?

Just thinking in terms of people who aren't as politically aware as some of us.

6. I don't know. I always just fill in the "straight party" box then skip to the non-partisan

portion of the ballot. Btw, the Ingham County Democratic Party is endorsing Kyra Harris Bolden and Richard Bernstein for the MI Supreme Court.

7. I voted for both of them.

The Michigan Education Association endorsed both of them. I met Richard Bernstein and heard him speak when I worked at a law school in Ann Arbor. He's pretty amazing.
