Our cars insurance rose by 27% this year

I wonder whether some of it is because new charges that the State passed?

Or just because of all the costs that insurance companies have suffered. Not just cars, but also homes.

Climate Change is sure to make these costs go up, even for low risk regions. Car Insurance, is a whole nother economic sector....not sure why my rates go up as my vehicles age...

Part of the reason being the jump it took for turning 70.

Between June 2023 & December 2023 it went up 37% but that had a lot to do with bidding the 14 year old Civic goodbye and getting a shiny new vehicle with all sorts of bells & whistles. I like a lot of the new features like the back up camera & blind spot indicators but all the electronics add to the cost of repairs.

The company I'm with also pointed at the high rate of car thefts in the area though I got a little bit knocked off for the anti-theft option on the car. (Though the Civic had the best anti-theft protection - a manual transmission. The new one is automatic.)

If I may ask.

MN ranks very high on most lists for quality of life in many areas.

There was a recent article on Bring Me The News or MinnPost or somewhere where this whole idea of MN. has high taxes was broken down. You may have to look it up.

Where I moved from (Tennessee... not from there though, just lived there before here) has higher taxes (generally) because they don't have a state income tax. But the base prices for some products and services is more than it was down there. Especially car repair! Man, one had better hope their vehicle works a long time around here.

In my home state of North Carolina, there are plenty of retirees as well. They won't last long with the healthcare system that exists there, but there are plenty of them there/moved there. I can't imagine. Your last name would have to be Soros or Rockefeller or Gates or something to be able to survive the N.C. healthcare system's financial vultures. (Better not have a chronic condition, they would be drooling at the prospect...)

Mine went up and resulted in a rather contentious phone call with the company. I pointed out that I'd been a customer for many years and that my driving record is pristine; they acknowledged both, but mostly hemmed and hawed. They didn't appreciate my comment that the increase is based in nothing more than 'because we can.'

And I'm still cleaning up the mess from going online to look for alternatives. Scam happens.
