MN-HD40B: Balance of power in Minnesota House to be determined Tuesday
ROSEVILLE, Minnesota — For the residents of District 40B in Roseville and Shoreview, the wait is nearly over for their House seat.
The special election on Tuesday between Democrat David Gottfried and Republican Paul Wikstrom will determine the balance of power in the Minnesota House.
The special election comes after a Ramsey County District Court judge ruled that DFLer Curtis Johnson failed to meet residency requirements. Back in November, Johnson beat Republican Paul Wikstrom by 30 percentage points. But then Johnson filed a lawsuit claiming Johnson didn't live in the district.
As a result, House Republicans have had a temporary 67-66 advantage that led to a Democratic boycott at the start of the legislative session.
