State Office Building flood repair to cost $1.5 million

A broken water valve in a Capitol office building will cost Minneosta taxpayers about $1.5 million.

That’s the approximate value of initial repairs plus a new contract with Thor Construction to repair the State Office Building after a July 7 break caused water damage to offices on multiple floors.

Thor will reinstall sheetrock and plaster and replace carpet, ceiling tiles and ductwork. The July 7 flood caused significant damage to five floors of the nine-story building — areas primarily occupied by legislators.

Work is expected to continue until mid-October.
