Minnesota House candidate’s posts about lynching, Abe Lincoln condemned

Republican House candidate Nolan West’s Facebook posts are causing a stir for the Blaine candidate.

In the posts, collected by the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, West said the day after the 2008 election that “It’s lynching time,” that he understands the need for a tyrant and criticized former President Lincoln. Many of the posts are seven years old, around the time West was in college. Others were posted more recently.

Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, said on Twitter shortly after the posts re-emerged that he spoke to West and condemned the postings.

“They were inappropriate and wrong,” Daudt said. The statement does not say whether he still supports West’s bid to win the suburban seat.
