Teen dressed as clown, carrying butcher knife arrested in northern Minnesota
A national wave of hoaxes and threats of scary clown sightings has reached northwestern Minnesota.
A 15-year-old wearing a clown costume and mask was arrested Saturday night in Crookston after police found a large kitchen/butcher style knife on him. That came after Crookston police responded to the Taco Johns at 8:30 p.m. on a report of an 11-year-old who had been chased by three or four people, one dressed as a clown, police said.
The boy fled on his bike after coming across the clown. While on his way to the Taco Johns, he encountered the threatening clown again, police said.
The 11-year-old called his grandmother, who called police. About this time, the police had received several other reports of someone or several people dressed as clowns in various parts of town standing in the street in the lane of traffic, police said in a statement.
