Mankato sushi restaurant investigated for tax fraud

MANKATO — The Minnesota Department of Revenue is investigating a Mankato restaurant for tax evasion.

Shogun Sushi and Hibachi appears to have deleted transaction records and under-reported its sales to the state, according to a search warrant application recently made public in Blue Earth County District Court.

On June 20 the state seized electronics and paperwork from the restaurant on Madison Avenue after Judge Mark Betters approved the warrant.

“I believe that Shogun Mankato Inc. and its owners, or employees under the owners direction, have been involved in criminal violations of the state of Minnesota tax laws,” Department of Revenue Special Investigator David McClung wrote in the warrant application.
