From a story today in the strib, about how farmers are worried about the trade war but not the miners:
Trumps tariffs are meant to revive the U.S. steel and aluminum industries. They are cause for celebration for Minnesota miners on the Iron Range, as well as their communities. There, facilities shuttered by a glut of steel and aluminum on the world market are expected to reopen and add hundreds of jobs.

Interesting that your link includes the word "wonk;" most voters are not "wonk" and, of course, things can always be different.

(58,785 posts)Of course it sounds like you're right to be worried about the 8th. At least I notice the Cook Report has it listed as a toss-up.
But still, sad about Franken, unable to share in the excitement over Pennsylvania?
You know, many propaganda sites specialize in dispiriting citizens. They make up sad facts to replace real ones, to make everything American and/or Democratic seem hopelessly corrupt and the decline of our nation inevitable.
This is all over the political web, including published on respected sites by infiltrators. I just mention it because your posts made me think of the mood they're trying to create.
So maybe watch out for this slow-drip poison in case that's part of what's happening? It works on our minds and in its way is just as real as Putin's poisons.
In fact, many of these verbal toxins come from the very same place. Weaponized media.
In any case, take care. We still have a long battle ahead.

(24,094 posts)Minnesota jobs not in the mining industry or related to it are will help the 8th district turnout? Mining in some other countries such as Australia (for iron in particular) isn't going to help the jobs in Minnesota? Australia has got iron lying on the ground basically waiting to be picked up (I'm hyping this up probably, the iron lying on the ground to be picked up) so the iron is going to be cheaper anyways. Knowing the rich boys, they'll do what China does, is import the iron ore (not processed overseas), and process it into steel and the like in China instead. This is how one gets around tRUMP's tariffs, so whatever tRUMP does anyway, there is gonna be a way around it (the tariffs).
Same w/ alum. too, probably (I don't know about alum. (vs. what little I know about iron ore)...
