Ellison's attorney general rally full of Sanders supporters
DULUTH -- It was Keith Ellison's rally Friday at Denfeld High School, but it was the man joining him that many came out to see.
"I just heard Bernie Sanders was here and I am not a fan of (President Donald) Trump, so I will not be voting Republican at all," said Mike Heyndericks. "So I'm very curious about democratic socialism and some of the things Bernie stands for. I would have voted for him last time if I could."
The former presidential candidate from Vermont was stumping for Ellison's bid to be the next Minnesota attorney general. And with a national figure coming to speak, national issues were top of mind for many of the attendants.
"If you want an authoritarian government with Trump, then I say go vote for Trump," said Ron Erickson, a Bemidji native. "But if you want to have a form of democracy that we've had in the free world for the last 70 years, I think Bernie Sanders is an alternative and a correction to that."
