Minnesota legislator facing drunken driving charges

HAKOPEE, Minn. -- A Minnesota state legislator is facing drunken driving charges.

Minnesota Public Radio reported that the 57-year-old state Rep. Bob Loonan, R-Shakopee, declined to elaborate on the incident that occured last weekend in nearby Jordan. He said he’s never been in this situation before, but is cooperating and is going into a system he trusts. Otherwise, he said he’s deferring to his attorney.

Loonan’s attorney, Justin Duffy, declined to comment.

A hearing is set for Sept. 28 on charges of driving under the influence and unsafe passing.

Loonan, an insurance agent in Shakopee, is serving his second term. He lost the GOP endorsement to businessman Erik Mortensen of Shakopee and is running in the Aug. 14 primary.
