Just 56% of state's corn crop planted

Minnesota farmers took advantage of the 4 1/2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday, according to USDA latest planting progress report.

Fifty-six percent of Minnesota’s corn has been planted, three days behind last year and 10 days behind the five-year average.

Soybeans were 22% planted, four days behind last year and 11 days behind the average.

Late planting and the cooler than normal spring has hindered crop emergence.
