Congresswoman Ilhan Omar files for divorce during 'intensely personal' and 'difficult' time

Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has filed for divorce from her husband.

Omar, one of the first two Muslim women in Congress, filed her paperwork Friday in Minneapolis family court, records confirm.

The freshman Democrat, 37, and husband Ahmed Hirsi, 39, share three children.

“As with all marriages, this is intensely personal and a difficult time for their family,” her lawyer Jaime Driggs said in a statement to the Daily News.

Divorce is so damn hard I cannot imagine going through it in public. I hope they come out of it able to parent together and move on.

I see young children of politicians to be off limits. A divorce impacts kids so much, the last thing they need to do is hear about their parent's divorce on the news or from their friends.

We don't have to stoop that low.
