Most are small and can be easily drowned out by the Twin Cities on a statewide level, but this is what hurts your Collin Petersons.

(11,869 posts)They know how to weld, can back a 18-wheeler, figure out a short in their home wiring, know how to use a GPS guided $500K John Deere farm machine, but once they listen to Rush, Hannity, and Levin they turn to stupid mush.

I am Iowa born and raised and having plenty of relatives in Iowa, many in farming. The cities of Des Moines, Iowa City, Ames, Cedar Rapids vote Blue. Why? Get out in the country Republicans dominate. It is a sorry Red State and now and the divide is pretty obvious. Protestations that Iowa is some well-educated, informed, logical thinking populace is false. They are divided and it won't get better with a mostly white, aging, population being stewed in hate radio. I wish it weren't so becuase I love the state. There was a time when it was more purple and at times Blue.

(22,972 posts)If you get in your car, turn on the radio, that is what you get.
There are few music stations. It is all talk all the time.
You go to work, people are talking about what they just heard on the radio.
You go to the store, visit with friends, hang out at the bar, people are repeating the talk radio message.
It's in the air. You don't even listen to the crap, but you still hear it every day.
I'm stunned that the liberals have ceded this powerful messaging tool to the conservatives.

(11,869 posts)Chicago's WCPT 820 AM and Madison TALK 92.7 FM are two in my area and on-line.
The thing about Con Radio is it often operates at a loss. Because, the influence it generates is seen as the reason for investment which has payed off handsomely for its wealthy owners in reduced regulation, taxes, and increase of power.
It offers simple views in a ha-ha funny way to cajole and lead resentment and hate then manipulate that into action at the voting booth. Like all modern propaganda it is stealthy and the listeners are taken for a ride at their expense.
