BCA: St Louis County deputies not talking after fatal Mountain Iron shooting

https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/crime-and-courts/6793498-BCA-St-Louis-County-deputies-not-talking-after-fatal-Mountain-Iron-shooting

Two St. Louis County Sheriff's deputies who fatally shot a man Saturday in Mountain Iron are refusing to be interviewed by investigators, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Tuesday.

There is also no known video or witnesses to the incident that claimed the life of 19-year-old Estavon Dominick Elioff of Virginia, the BCA said.

The deputies, Ryan Smith and Matt Tomsich, have been placed on standard administrative leave while the state agency investigates the circumstances of the fatal encounter.

"Both deputies Tomsich and Smith have declined to be interviewed by BCA agents," a statement read. "Attorneys for the deputies provided unsolicited written reports from the officers to the BCA on Tuesday."
