Jackson councilman calls mayor 'incompetent' in war of words amid ongoing water crisis

Ward 3 City Councilman Kenneth Stokes on Wednesday lashed out at Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in a developing war of words between the two city leaders as a water crisis continues to play out in Jackson.

Stokes called the press conference in his ward, held in west Jackson in the middle of a large pothole on Lanier Avenue, to respond to a slew of grievances Lumumba launched at the councilman on Tuesday.

Billed as an update on the city's water shortage, Lumumba spent most of a half-hour press conference Tuesday calling out Stokes for what the mayor said was the spreading of misinformation to residents for years, but especially during the water crisis.

Stokes on Wednesday continued his attack on Lumumba for what he described as an "incompetent" and late response to the crisis.
