Jackson City Council sets date for special election to replace Angelique Lee

JACKSON, Miss. — The Jackson City Council set the date for a special election to replace former Ward 2 councilwoman Angelique Lee, who resigned last week and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery.

The special election will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1. A runoff election, if needed, will be held Oct. 22. By state law, the special election must be held 30 to 45 days after the council meeting.

Lee had more than six months left on her term when she resigned on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Qualification for candidates begins Tuesday and runs until 5 p.m. on Sept. 11. Qualifying packets will be available for pickup at the city clerk's office. Each candidate must have been a resident of Ward 2 for at least two years.
