Officials speak out on intimidation and voter fraud allegations in Hattiesburg

Congressman Bennie Thompson's spokesman told the Hattiesburg American on Friday that Thompson is glad the Department of Justice is looking into allegations raised by some Hattiesburg community members stemming from the 2013 municipal election.

Trey Baker, a spokesman for the 2nd District U.S. representative, said some Hattiesburg residents had reached out to the congressman about their concerns. Thompson decided the issue would best be handled by federal officials.

“These are serious allegations and he just wanted DOJ to look’’ into it, Baker said.

Baker said Thompson’s office will follow up with justice officials to check on the status of the investigation.
