Iowan with a question re: this primary, or is it runoff in MS...

Last edited Tue Jun 24, 2014, 02:52 AM - Edit history (1)

Watching Chris Hayes right now discussing this strange battle between Cochran and McDaniel. Is there a Democrat running on the other side of the ticket or are Mississippians limited to these two jokers? Does the Democratic Party candidate have even a snowball's chance in Hades of success? I'm kind of confused about this because of the majority minority nature of the state. Can't that be used to break the hold of the Rs by perhaps a write in candidate? Are write-in candidates even allowed?

In the Republican primary, a candidate must get 50 percent to win. If they don't then the top 2 have a run off (I think 3 weeks later). The Democrats had their primary the same day but I think the winner had over 50 percent so no need for run off. This primary is ugly, but whoever wins will be in the Senate in January 2012 unfortunately......I would love for a Democratic candidate to win, but in Mississippi it is unlikely.....however great things have happened before so you never know especially since this primary has been SUPER UGLY!

with Senator Cochrane appealing to blacks to cross party lines and vote for him. My guess he presents himself as the least of two really ugly evils for blacks. A really strange appeal

I just wonder if he will really get that many to cross over. It doesn't make sense to me for a Democratic African American to vote for the easier candidate to win the General. I would think that they would rather the Tea Party candidate to win and work really hard to get the vote out and try to win the Democratic candidate. We will see what happens tomorrow.

the discussion of this crossover appeal by Cochrane that prompted me to come here to ask about the Democratic side of the ticket in the fall. Just haven't been tracking on MS politics since we have our own special version of entitlted candidate going on in our gubinatorial race as well as a Palin wannabee trying to get Harkin's seat.

It is shaping up to be a too long hot summer.

And was better on race issues back then than people like Sonny Montgomery or Jamie Whitten. He gets I think a 20% or so from NAACP (most of the rest of the southern Republicans have like a 0% or so). I never voted for the guy, but he always was good with constituent services, I must say.

for Mississippi. MI is Michigan. Yes, there is a Democrat running and Cochran should lose.
