Supervisor's 2018 DUI arrest hidden from public eye

TUPELO • Lee County Supervisor Billy Joe Holland was charged with drunk driving over a year ago, but he was quickly released without being booked into the local jail and the case was quietly dismissed.

Holland, in his second term as a 5th district county supervisor, admitted to drinking multiple margaritas before he was stopped at a Mississippi Highway Patrol checkpoint at 9:17 p.m. on April 6, 2018.

“I hate that it happened. I messed up,” Holland said. “It’s my fault, and I’m moving on.”

A state trooper took Holland to the Lee County Jail and offered a blood alcohol test on the jail’s Intoxilyzer 8000. The test was given more than an hour after Holland was stopped and showed his blood alcohol level to be 0.10 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.
