To win in November, union members, families need to show up at the polls

South St. Louis County – “We’re in an interesting election cycle,” Jake Hummel, Missouri House Minority Leader and secretary-treasurer of the Missouri AFL-CIO told a recent gathering of the South County Labor Club.

“Remember 2010? Ike Skelton (Democratic U.S. Representative for Missouri’s 4th congressional district from 1977 to 2011 and chairman of the House Armed Services Committee) won with 212,000 votes in 2008; his opponent got 111,000. In 2010, when the Democrats didn’t show up, he lost. We lost because 100,000 Democrats didn’t show up for the election.”

Facing another off-year election on Nov. 4, with a president who has low approval ratings, and Republicans and extremists in their party holding a majority in the U.S. House and both houses of the Missouri legislature, Hummel said labor can’t afford to let that happen again.

at least I haven't heard of any. I'm in Hartzler's district. No opposition. I'll vote for Mickey Mouse: a Dem.

The party seems to have left the area. This used to be a Dem stronghold until * got put in place.

I see union members posting anti-Obama stuff all the time. WTF is wrong with these idiots?

We even had an ex-union guy in the capitol vote WITH the Rs to over-ride Nixon's veto of a tax giveaway for the rich. Idiot!

My local paper has a preview of the ballot. 7 uncontested races will go to R, more likely TEA.

Most are self supported, Nixon has never been much of team player, Mccaskil hasn't done much either

I guess. Yet, no one can see the hypocrisy in the Rs here. Hartzler, collecting money for her farm that doesn't grow anything, yet denying the poor relief for food. Kehoe, backed a bill that helps new acr dealers at the expense of the little ones(he made his fortune selling cars, go figure). There was Cooper that helped gut healthcare(a hospital board member).

The list seems endless, yet no one is paying attention, or they don't care or just too busy trying to make ends meet. The party needs to get back to the 50 state plan. They beg me for money I don't have, yet refuse to fund any candidates.

They'll get my vote, but I haven't a cent to spare because of their lack of representation when they're in charge.
