WHEN A GROUP of workers at a Dollar General store in Auxvasse, Missouri, voted to unionize in early December, employees at nearby stores wanted to know whether the move would affect them. Margeorie Nation, the manager at a Dollar General in Glasgow, another Missouri town, raised her concerns in a conversation with other store managers. She also posted about it on a private social media account.
Shortly thereafter, she lost her job.
Ive never been written up. Ive never been reprimanded. Nothing, Nation told The Intercept. In fact, she said, her store was given a company award for sales and customer satisfaction last year.
The discount store chains employee handbook makes clear the companys philosophy of remaining union-free. Our union free status is one reason we continue to grow and provide employment while many unionized companies have declined, it states.

Our union free status is one reason we continue to grow our profits and shrink our effective wages paid; and provide part-time employment without any kind of benefits that would eat into our profit growth margins; while many unionized companies have declined because they have been successfully demonized by 40 years of relentless propaganda,
For the TL;DR crowd: "Unions suck because they make us pay fair wages and reduce profits to ownership and shareholders in favor of the people actually doing the work of running our shithole stores."

As a manager, she had no protections..managers are employees at will..

As an ATT retiree - 30 years - (todays ATT values are much different from when I was there, is SBC on steroids..not good either) - as a manager, give me a UNION shop anyday...give me a union steward and we work together in a win-win environment..you see, there is this little union book...in black and white - that ALL employees work by..
