Wastewater research garners national headlines, "Late Show" mention

JEFFERSON CITY — A University of Missouri professor and leading COVID-19 researcher found his work making national headlines this week from the New York Times and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

"Seeing that others do express the same concern is a little gratifying," Dr. Marc Johnson said. "I guess I'm not crazy."

KRCG 13 has spoken with Dr. Johnson several time over the past year, dissecting his research of sampling wastewater to find traces of COVID-19. His team helped discover the Omicron variant's prevalence in the United States, as well as monitoring the spread of the contagious Delta variant in Missouri.

But it's a different facet of his wastewater variant research that is garnering national recognition.
