Missouri's top mental health official balked at new homeless law. The governor signed it anyway.

THREAD: The Missouri government will begin enforcing a new law at the start of 2023 to begin a multi-pronged approach to fighting the homeless.

Firstly, the law will provide criminal charges for sleeping or camping on public/government property.

Gov. Mike Parson, who announced Huhn’s selection as director in December, signed the Republican-backed measure into law in June.

These people LIKE to be in the streets, now they are going to lock them up?

Whatever happened to LIVE and LET LIVE?? So many worse problems we have to deal with, but noooo... let's go after the homeless.

Seems that’s not so controversial. I think that’s just as bad. Live and let live indeed.

All homeless people are the same - they all like to be homeless?

Assuming they "like to be homeless" is an excuse. Our society is failing them and also failing people who live near them.

As for live and let live - have you ever had a homeless person set up camp on the street in front of your house? Or try to sneak into the laundry room to sleep?

Locking them up is not the solution, the money spent to lock up a homeless person could be much better spent on resources for them.

Finally, the new Missouri law criminalizing camping/sleeping outside will actually bar cities and organizations from using government grant money to build permanent housing for the unhoused.

We’re all criminals in Missouri. And he gets to decide who has the babies. Yeah, that guy standing behind that woman in the picture.

I can’t stand my Governor.

“For verily I say unto thee, it shall be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, then for the poor and unhoused to be cared for appropriately…”

These fucks call themselves Christians.

Many of the people will be pushed ALL THE WAY out to “godless” California, where their presence will be used by republiscums to attack the “devastation” brought about by “far-left socialists”
