SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY#3) -- Exactly one week after the public first heard about a horrific dog torturing incident near Fellows Lake, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott held a news conference to express his department's determination to find the person who committed the crime by giving new details about the incident and increasing the reward from $1,000 to $16,000.
"If you've lived in this area for any length of time, you know that we're an agricultural community, and we're fans of our cats and dogs," Sheriff Arnott said. "So people are outraged about this incident. They want us to get to the bottom of it and hold somebody responsible, and that's our mission today."
It was a passerby who discovered the one-year-old Heeler mix who had her legs tied and burns all over her body just north of Fellows Lake, east of the marina.
The dog was rushed to the Fair Grove Veterinary Clinic but did not survive.

"This is an alarming case, because the dog was not only dropped off here, but was bound So it couldn't get away from the fire."
Arnott added that the main clue as to who the owner might be is the fact that the dog, which died after it was found on January 11, had unusual eyes. One was blue and the other was half-blue and half-brown.
"But I also want to put out there that if someone lives in that area, and you have any type of video surveillance or any knowledge of anybody around that area that may either own the dog or have knowledge of this crime or feel they have information, we encourage you to call and let us know," Arnott said.
The Greene County Sheriff's office tip-line number is (417) 829-6230. The information can be provided anonymously. Information can also be provided by going to the sheriff's office website and clicking the tab that says "submit a tip online."
