The Queer Straight Alliance protests outside an event held by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation where gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte spoke about becoming an entrepreneur. The students oppose his candidacy because of his opposition to Bozeman's non-discrimination ordinance.

While students and Democrats protested outside, Bozeman’s Greg Gianforte spoke to over a hundred attendees at Montana State University on Thursday about why they should become entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurship is the new American dream,” the founder of RightNow Technologies said at an Americans for Prosperity Foundation event inside the Strand Union Building. “It used to be home ownership and a car in the garage.”

Outside the building, students from the Queer Straight Alliance and Gallatin Democrats gathered to protest Gianforte’s opposition to an anti-discrimination law. The Chronicle counted 26 protesters holding signs and chanting, “We are queer, have no fear,” and, “Stop, Stop, Gianforte.”

“He has a past of hatred and discrimination against the LGBTQ community,” said Alex Paterson, president of the Queer Straight Alliance, who said he was terrified of Gianforte becoming governor. “He was one of the biggest opponents of the (non-discrimination ordinance) and their family foundation has funded anti-gay groups.”
