WASHINGTON Nevada Democrats seized Tuesday on President Donald Trumps wobble on Yucca Mountain, urging him to follow through with his campaign-season equivocation and keep the nuclear repository in Nevada in a mothballed state.
Trump was campaigning for Republican Sen. Dean Heller in Elko last week when he told KRNV News 4 that as president he understood the states opposition to the project.
I think you should do things where people want them to happen, Trump told the Reno TV station. So I would be very inclined to be against it and we will be looking at it very seriously over the next few weeks. And I agree with the people of Nevada.
The entire Nevada congressional delegation is opposed to reviving the licensing process the Department of Energy was going through to receive a Nuclear Regulatory Commission license to build the facility.

(767 posts)In the 70's my organization shipped radioactive waste to the Nevada Test Site (NTS.) Since NTS had many areas of radioactive contamination sending more radioactive waste was a good idea. I know the stuff was just hidden in the desert. I do not think the government would super fund and clean this part of Nevada? Therefore people think more radioactive waste should be piled in Nevada. Shooting the waste into space was an idea in the past. We also know many rockets EXPLODE. We have been lucky with the nuclear reactors which were on some satellites launched.......I know radioactive waste has to be disposed, but we better find an area that does not have earthquakes or other possible concerns which would just cause a BIGGER mess.....
