New Hampshire secretary of state predicts record voter turnout
Secretary of State David Scanlan said Thursday he is predicting record turnout on Election Day, telling voters and poll workers to expect lines.
Scanlan forecasted that 824,000 Granite Staters would show up to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The election features heated, close races for the presidency and the governors office, and will also determine control of the state Legislature.
The secretary of state also predicted that there will be a high number of residents who register to vote on Election Day, pointing to the checklist verification in 2021 that removed many inactive voters from the rolls. Scanlan thinks many of them will re-register on the day of the election.
A total of 626,931 residents cast ballots in the 2022 midterm elections, both in person and through absentee voting. In 2020, 814,499 residents voted, setting a record.
New Hampshire historically sees some of the highest voter turnout rates in the country.
