Robber's getaway car ran out of gas

MANCHESTER

A Bedford woman walked into the Varney Street Quick Stop on the West Side about 6:10 p.m. Saturday and said she had a gun.

A store clerk said he had a bat and chased the woman outside, striking her before she got to her car empty-handed, according to police Lt. Michael Hurley.

The woman, identified as 29-year-old Jannell Perry, fled in a 1999 Volvo station wagon, but got only as far as Comeau Street, about a third of a mile from the store at 323 Varney St., police said.

“We got a tip the vehicle ran out of gas,” Hurley said.

Pretty funny - or pretty sad. There sure are a lot of robberies in the state in recent months. People who are not working are getting desperate - OR more and more people who are addicted to drugs and doing what it takes to procure them.
