St. Anselm College eliminates staff amid financial difficulties

GOFFSTOWN — Saint Anselm College laid off 13 people this week in an effort to address what it referred to as “upcoming financial challenges” in a “rapidly changing climate and marketplace in higher education.”

In a written statement, the college announced that the layoffs were the end result of “a strategic and stringent financial review, encompassing policies, programs, and positions” performed in coordination with the institution’s board of trustees.

While the same statement indicates that the financial review achieved a number of cost reductions by “changing policies, eliminating or reducing certain programs, and not filling some roles that had been vacated,” it does not go into detail about the specific policies and programs that were changed or eliminated, or the dollar amount that was saved as a result.

College officials could not be reached for comment.
