Atlantic City mayor, councilman plead not guilty to nightclub fight charges
Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam and City Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy have both entered not-guilty pleas following a municipal court appearance Tuesday on charges filed following a fight in November outside Haven Nightclub at the Golden Nugget Casino.
Gilliam was not at the North Wildwood Municipal Court Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the court session beginning, Judge Louis Belasco said Gilliam had sent a letter indicating his not-guilty plea through his attorney, Christopher St. John, who is based out of Cherry Hill.
Fauntleroy was in attendance and sat quietly alone on a courtroom bench waiting for his name to be called. The Atlantic City councilman acknowledged the charges against him and entered a plea of not guilty before walking out of the courtroom to his car and driving away. He refused to answer questions from members of the media.
Security camera footage released by the state Attorney Generals office allegedly showed Gilliam and Fauntleroy in a fight with two men and a woman outside of the Atlantic City nightclub.
