The group of disaffected Republicans whose leaders include former Gov. Christie Whitman endorsed two New Jersey House Democrats Thursday in their efforts to purge their party of Donald Trump and his acolytes.
The Renew America Movement, which Whitman helped create, named Reps. Andy Kim, D-3rd Dist., and Josh Gottheimer, D-5th Dist., to its list of 21 lawmakers or candidates, both Democrats and Republicans, it was backing to prevent Trump from gaining a stronger foothold in the party and the GOP from taking control of Congress in 2022.
Also on the list was Rep. Susan Wild, D-Pa. One of her predecessors in the Lehigh Valley congressional district, Republican Charlie Dent, is also on the board of the Renew America Movement.
Were going to go where we believe we can affect the outcome, Whitman said on a Youtube chat.

(56,069 posts)If the GOP supports the Sinema and Manchin type Dem, then the Dem party will swing hard to the right.
Progressives will be alienated, and there would be big rift in the party.
We know the GOP are control freaks and con artists, do we want them taking over our party?

(20,649 posts)in being anti Trump, but was always a moderate Republican. Moreover, this group still identify as being Republican even though they're hated, so there's not much to fear from them. I don't think you have a lot to fear if you look at how the Progressives have advanced this term. The Democratic Party is more centre left than it was, but I feel people like Jayapal have organised the Progressive Caucus better than previous leaders and you don't see as much of the centre right throwing their hands in the air, apart from the obvious current situation.

It is the GOP sociopathic leadership I don't trust.

I think Whitman was horrified when all those GOP congresspersons voted not to accept the
results of 2020 election for POTUS.

(11,911 posts)One of her statements on MSNBC was that repubs should vote for moderate democrats and democrats should vote for moderate republicans instead of left democrats. Sorry, the dems do not need more Manchins and certainly will not vote republican.
