A former Long Branch, N.J., police officer admitted Tuesday he ran a methamphetamine lab out of his home. Christopher Walls, 50, pleaded guilty to causing a risk of widespread Injury and manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance, the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office said Tuesday.
Walls, who earned $128,000 a year as a police officer before being suspended following his arrest, is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 14, 2022.
Cops saw materials and chemicals used to make methamphetamine as well as meth residue in glassware when they were called to Walls home for a domestic disturbance. Investigators also found two long guns, four handguns, eight high-capacity magazines and ammunition in an unlocked safe. The safe could be accessed by a child who lived there, according to prosecutors. Walls also had books about making methamphetamine, explosives and poison.
Walls is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in state prison but will be eligible for parole after two years, under an agreement his attorney reached with prosecutors. Walls is also banned from ever holding a public job again and surrendered his guns and firearms ID card.
Police were tipped off to the drugs by someone else who lived in the house.
