You are in such a pretty part of New Mexico. We are always meaning to spend a long weekend down there, but so far work schedules have not allowed.

5. Yup, it is nice down here.

I started my NM odyssey back in '64 in Questa, dad was a geologist at Moly Mine. I spent seventh grade in the two room school house at the mine, we had a row for each grade.

We took several trips to Santa Fe, a most beautiful place. I can only wonder what it looks like up there now. It's been a long time since I've gotten to the northern part of the state, except for the occasional run to Albuquerque. ...Oh boy, we really do need to take a vacation to the city different, and points north.

We moved to Silver City in '65, except for some ventures overseas and a year in Ruidoso, I've been here since, moving to AV in '75.

6. At the moment it "looks" pretty-- all holiday-card-snowy, but FEELS like Minnesota.

NOT a kind of deja-vu I want to experience, believe me. But they say it will warm back up to more normal temps by the weekend.

We are doing our best to ward off the worst kind of "development," but growing all the same. Still, it will probably be recognizable if/when you visit points north.

We are determined to visit Silver City, I understand it's definitely in the Best Kept Secrets category. Colleagues have traveled down there for meetings and always come back with super reviews.

12. Hello to all.

I'm also in Santa Fe. Moved here three and a half years ago from Overland Park, Kansas.

I love it here, although the cavalier attitude towards snow removal will eventually drive me away, I suspect. The climate is wonderful, the scenery fantastic. I have a great view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains across my back yard, and I don't live in a million dollar home.

...within, oh, three days or so of any snowfall worth the name. Ain't that good enough for anyone?

I am remembering the second winter after we moved here. I was born and raised in St. Paul, MN, where snow management is an art and a science.

The first winter after we moved here there WAS no snow, so it wasn't until the next year that I got to experience Santa Fe "snow removal" in all its, um... well... idiosyncrasy?

We had a four- or five-inch fall, and I got up the next morning and carefully shoveled walk and driveway, and even a short way into the street. Back in Minnesota, this would have been a Smart Tactic as it would have minimized the amount of snow the plow would push back across the driveway mouth. I stood back, panting a little and beaming with pride at my job well done, and a neighbor came out to shovel their walk.

I mentioned how pleased I was to be ready for the plow and he looked blank. "Plow?"

Well, there are other compensations for being here.

different parts of the country that get a lot of snow, including Minneapolis.

Snow removal, what a novel concept!

Yes, there are other lovely compensations to living here. Despite what the locals seem to think, 40 degrees is not bitter cold. And the sun is almost always shining. I think the official number of days with sunshine seriously underestimates how much we actually get. I don't think there are as many as half a dozen days in any year which are completely overcast.

Oh, oh, what I do like about the snow we get is that it's always quite dry and light, and I just sweep my sidewalk and driveway with a broom as soon as I can. I keep on thinking I ought to buy a shovel, but one neighbor has one that he leaves outside on snow days for me to use if I really need it.

The weather's been weird here. Got caught in a freak hailstorm yesterday where the temp dropped from about 55 to 40 in a few minutes...naturally this was while walking downtown. So I'm not really sure if I can spare any warmer weather yet.
