Woman pulls gun on security at Cottonwood Mall

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Panic broke out at Cottonwood Mall on Saturday night after a woman pulled a gun on security guards who had just taken her apparent companion into custody for theft, according to Albuquerque police.

Calls to 911 poured out of the mall and more than 100 Albuquerque police officers and Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies responded in what authorities treated as an “active shooter” situation, said officer Simon Drobik, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman.

But no shots were fired and no one was injured, he said.

“We don’t take these things lightly,” Drobik said.
