(N.M.) Pie Town pie shop closed for good
PIE TOWN, N.M. - Pie-O-Neer Pies, a popular bakery and New Mexico staple in the heart of Pie Town, has closed its doors for good amid COVID-19. They closed on June 15.
Pie-O-Neers owner, Kathy Knapp said You have to be realistic about the money, the bills and the utilities. The overhead doesnt stop. When theres no income, you can only put things off for so long; you have to make decisions, choices. Knapp said they tried alternatives but to no avail.
We literally dont have curbs. Its a remote town with dirt roads. I mean, were on the highway. You can blink and miss us, so the delivery wasnt an option, she said. Most of our customers come from other states.
Weve created something thats not going awaya destination. People need a reason to get in a car and go somewhere, she said. They need to be happy and a little road trip, a day trip, a planning of vacationyou look forward to it and it gives you energy to go on to your daily tasks.
Despite the challenges, Knapp said she and her partner plan to move forward. We have always hoped to reopen my partners, Stanley Kings, Silver Creek Inn, she said. Its a guesthouse from the 1880s from the gold rush and we hope to retire here and do that someday and were accelerating those plans. I have faith the future will be bright eventually and everything has its time.
