(17,111 posts)I love NM, but I haven't been there in a long time. Lots of beautiful places there, many just don't know it.

(21,646 posts)time I stayed longer on my own to explore.
I would think about retiring there when the time comes. The weather is nice not just the view .
I love Chicago but ooooh those Chiberia winters and snow maybe not forever.
Albuquerque seemed like a nice town but I did not realize thats 1/2 the state population !
ETA the gov there is doing a good job on covid imo .

(78 posts)I have a friend who lives out in Tijeras and another in Santa Fe, and I made my first pilgrimage to Albuquerque last summer.
I grew up in the DFW Metroplex, and have lived in Michigan for quite some time now, but let me tell you, I fell in love with the Duke City and each part of New Mexico I was able to visit.
The views and the weather are spectacular, the people friendly, and the food... I could go on for a long while about the food. My friend in Tijeras recommended I look at Gil Garduño's blog at https://www.nmgastronome.com/ , and I ended up having dinner one late afternoon at Mary and Tito's Cafe. The carne adovada is exquisite; I had it prepared "Christmas Style," plus had the fried egg on top. My taste buds haven't forgotten that experience! I've got fresh Hatch chiles on order, plus several salsas from the local merchants, and am really looking forward to those arriving as the crop comes in.
I'll miss it this summer, but intend on visiting again just as soon as it's safe to do so.
Thank you for posting the article!

(24,640 posts)We planned on taking 2 weeks to explore as we drove from Ca to FL in the final step of moving. Both babies got sick on day 3 and we had to hurry home and couldn't spend the time in places like NM that we wanted to. When it's safe to travel again, I still want us to do that.
