Pecos Fire

Just wondering if anyone is near this fire. I hope you are all safe. We're over at Storrie Lake in Las Vegas and we can smell it. I don't have any experience with these western wildfires but, looking at the map, it seems we should be okay over here. Thank heavens the wind finally died down. We were getting 50 mile an hour gusts earlier.

If anyone needs to evacuate, let me know. Space in the motorhome is limited but we'd make room.

and I can see the smoke quite vividly to the east. I keep on thinking I can faintly smell smoke, but not sure if I'm just imagining that.

It was VERY windy here yesterday, and only a bit breezy today.

It's better tonight but it was bad this afternoon. You probably are smelling it now. I think the wind shifted directions and is blowing it away from us now and towards you. Stay safe!

For folks who want to help and/or stay in touch, they've established a FB page:

We just phoned in an order for some alfalfa hay for the evacuated livestock at Pecos Rodeo Grounds.

Sometimes social media is a wonderful thing.

appreciatively,

I was getting a little nervous this afternoon because the smoke was pretty bad. I didn't think we were in danger but I wasn't sure I was going to be able to take much more of the smoke. It's a lot better now.

Still pretty high up, though, so tolerable.

Not fun.

watchfully,

I work at the hospital in Santa Fe on the information desk, and about 5 o'clock or so was when I heard about that one from one of our couriers. By that time it was very smokey outside also.

Sigh. Fire season is starting quite strong.

I leave tomorrow for a vacation in Sedona, and I'm just hoping no fires spring up to keep me from getting there.

I love Sedona. You should have a great time.

I heard about that second fire. That's terrible. I think we're going to leave here Monday but not sure where to head next. If the smoke gets as bad tomorrow as it was today we'll probably just go ahead and leave tomorrow. We were thinking about heading to Tijeras next.

Anyway...have fun in Sedona!
