New Mexico
Related: About this forumLas Vegas, N.M. Need advice
We pulled into Las Vegas yesterday in our motorhome towing a Jeep. Our water pump on the Jeep is leaking fluid and needs to be replaced. We're trying to find a good place to take it or have it towed but there are no reviews of any of the repair places.
Anyone here familiar with the town that could give us advice would be greatly appreciated. Google, Yelp, etc has nothing and keeps resetting to Las Vegas, NV. We're at a loss. I guess we can just pick a place and hope for the best but I thought I'd try here first.

(33,494 posts)We have a list of repair places, I was just wondering if there was anyone locally who knew anything about them. I probably didn't make that clear. I've gotten great tips about New Mexico in this forum before from folks who live here.

(23,156 posts)but the Car Talk website has recommended mechanics in lots of places. You'll have to see if they have any for Las Vegas.

(3,475 posts)We did find someone and he was great. Being strangers in town, we were just worried that we would get taken advantage of. We really lucked out. The camp host here at Storrie said her brother was a mechanic. He came here, towed our Jeep to his place, replaced the water pump and did an oil change and lube job and replaced a fan belt and only charged us 140 dollars. Did all this and had it back to us in less than 24 hours. We were very pleased.
I really appreciate your help though. As fulltime travelers, the only downside is when something like this comes up and we don't know anyone in the area to tip us off to the good guys. I usually just rely on Internet reviews but there was very little info about services in this town.
I'll save that website for future use. Thanks again!

(23,156 posts)I thought those things were really expensive! So either I'm confused or you really had a honey of a mechanic.
Often those kinds of personal recommendations are the best.
Where are you going to next?
I'm in Santa Fe. PM me if you'd like to meet for coffee or some such.

(3,475 posts)I think we're heading north next. We need to be in Maryland for a wedding this summer so we'll probably start heading that way soon. (We travel very slowly.) We will probably head back to New Mexico after the wedding. I love Santa Fe so if we don't get there this Spring, we'll probably be there some time in our travels. I'll pm you if I know we're going to be in town.

(23,156 posts)Although if you are in Las Vegas and are going to be there for a day or two longer, it's only an hour drive from Santa Fe. I actually need to check something out about the roads in Glorieta, which is between here and there, and I could easily rendezvous with you somewhere in Las Vegas.
But travelling slowly is very nice. No rush, no deadlines. It's the best way. I've recently retired and I just love it for that very reason.
