Albuquerque PD: Man who allegedly fired shots at police arrested after standoff

Justin Brouillette was intent staying out of jail. He sped away from police during a routine traffic stop, crashed into another car, fired multiple shots at two officers and forced his way into a an apartment and took a man hostage, police say. None of it worked. Police arrested him after a hours-long standoff in southeast Albuquerque Wednesday afternoon.

Officer Tanner Tixier said Brouillette, 21, fled from police and fired multiple shots officers before running into a neighborhood and taking a man hostage in an apartment near Louisiana and Zuni.

No officers were hit in the shooting, and no officers fired their weapons, Tixier said.

He said the hostage was able to escape before police arrested Brouillette, and no one was injured in the incident.

The SWAT team was called to negotiate with Brouillette, who was wanted on four felony warrants, one for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Tixier said.
