Albuquerque Public Schools: Resigned deputy superintendent accused of sexual assault on a child
Albuquerque Public Schools officials confirmed Friday evening that Jason Martinez, the recently resigned deputy superintendent, is awaiting trial on sexual assault on a child charges in Colorado.
Martinez resigned Thursday when school officials became aware he hadnt completed a background check.
Court records originally obtained by The NM Political Report show that Martinez is awaiting trial on six counts of sexual assault on a child by a person of trust in Denver, Colo. According to the court documents, at least one victim in the case is a boy under 15 years old.
I was surprised to learn of these charges and certainly would never have offered Mr. Martinez employment with the district if I had known, APS Superintendent Dr. Luis Valentino said in a statement. I regret that decision.
