4 admit to stealing tax returns out of Syracuse-area mailboxes in $2.8 million scheme

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Four Bronx men today admitted to their roles in a $2.8 million scheme that included stealing tax returns out of Syracuse-area mailboxes.

The suspects were Ronnie Mejia, 28; Cerrone Hall, 29; Luis Morill, 28; and Jeffrey Carvajal, 26, all of the Bronx.

They were convicted of conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and committing wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced today.

Prosecutor Richard Southwick said the men created and filed fraudulent tax returns with stolen identifies from Puerto Rico and the Syracuse area.
