I can understand why people didn't try to intervene during the attack. Some might have been afraid of being attacked themselves. Some might have been too shocked to take action. Not everyone is an action hero.

But I just can't understand why no one would go and sit next to that poor lady after the attack ended. What kind of society have we become?

A little story: When I was maybe 15 years old, I was riding a city bus. In the last seat, way in the back, sat a man. Dirty and ragged and alone. Suddenly, he threw up.

The rest of the passengers were disgusted. Except for one old lady. She walked back to the man, sat next to him, and helped clean him up. That old lady taught me an important lesson that day.
